Marva Collins

Marva Collins' content-rich, no-excuses approach to teaching with a laser focus on student achievement has inspired teachers across the country.    Statistics for this web site show that, for June through September, 2001, more than 350 visitors came to this site looking for information about Ms. Collins.   The only other topic in the same league is value-added assessment (see TVAAS above). Had Chicago used Value-Added Assessment when Ms. Collins was there, she might not have had to leave public schools!

STUDENTS:  If you are working on a paper, the e-mail exchanges about Ms. Collins that I had with teachers and parents in Nashville while I was on the School Board might provide some good material.  Drop me a note about your paper, and I will provide any help I can.

Here's another good source of information on Ms. Collins:

February, 1999, series of articles published in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinelprovides  more information on Ms. Collins and the effect her approach continues to have on teachers and schools.

Feel free to e-mail me comments, suggestions or questions at dave@shearonforschools.com. If you have found a great web resource on Marva Collins, e-mail me and I will post it here!
