Marva Collins' Way

by Marva Collins, Civia Tamarkin & Alex Haley

Again, a powerful story of a superior teacher who was not supported by her school system, but went on to found a profoundly successful school. Ms. Collins gives a model for teachers seeking professional respect: knowledge, skill and caring. One of the more powerful points in the book to me was the story of a parent assistant, who had been a teacher, who helped Ms. Collins when her school started. After a year, this former teacher, who had left teaching in disgust, was inspired to return to teaching with Ms. Collins, to learn her techniques, and to read, read, read, and study to learn all the literature and information Ms. Collins uses so naturally as part of her teaching.  Click here for more on Marva Collins.
